"I need to wash my hands," Gwen said. Her voice was strained, scratched and a year ago she would have been crying.

"You probably need a drink - "

"No, Jack," Gwen said, turning around sharply to pin him down with the strength of her glare. She held her hands up. They were shaking. "No Jack. I don't need a drink. I need to wash my hands. Because there is blood everywhere."

Jack took a step towards her until they were only a few inches apart. "Your hands are clean, Gwen."

She pulled her right arm back, as if to punch him. He didn't move an inch.

"Would it make you feel better?" Jack asked.

Gwen dropped her hands and closed her eyes. She moved to press her face against his neck and then swallowed before saying, "No."

Jack ran his knuckles of one of his hands gently down her arm. "I'm sorry."

Gwen jerked away from him. "It had to happen sometime, I guess. This job, it - "

"No," Jack grabbed both of her wrists in his hands and stared at her, his eyes hard and voice even harder. "No, it didn't have to happen."

"You're the one who sent off a little girl with evil fairies Jack!"

"That's different," Jack's voice faltered slightly but his grip on her wrists tightened.

"Why?" Gwen asked, her eyes flickering back and forth, searching.

"Because it's you," Jack said, tone as abrupt as his answer.

And just as abruptly, Gwen closed what little space that was between them and pressed her lips on his. He moved her wrists, set them on her hips without letting them go, and opened his mouth as her tongue brushed against his lips. When she wrapped one arm around him and set her hand on the small of his back, he pulled away as if he'd been hit.

"You're getting married to Rhys," Jack said. "You should be doing this with him."

"Don't you dare try and treat me like a child again," Gwen said and reached up to grab his neck and pull him down in order to kiss him, teeth grazing against his lips. She smiled against his lips when he groaned very softly and pressed one of his legs between hers and didn't resist to being pressed against a nearby wall.

His was working his way up her shirt, callused fingers brushing across her skin, making her shiver when the office door was opened.

"I see you're busy," Ianto said as Gwen and Jack pulled away from each other so sharply that he accidentally scrapped his nails against her skin. It hurt, but not enough so that she couldn't hide the hiss threatening to surface.

"Ianto - "

"Tosh is on the phone," Ianto said, as if he hadn't heard Jack say his name, "and has some urgent news for you."

Walking over towards him, Jack said, "It's not - "

Ianto cut him off. "It's none of my business," he paused and then added, voice edging on anger, "sir." Then he walked out of the room.

He didn't slam the door, but it sure sounded like it to Gwen.

"Gwen I - "

"I'm not one to talk," Gwen said, rising her hand to show off her ring.

"I need to talk to Tosh," Jack said and after leaving at her nod, Gwen sunk to the ground and buried her face in her arms.
