Disclaimer: I do not own Full Metal Alchemist.
Pairing: Roy x Ed
Words: 514
Notes: A challenge. Also my first Full Mental Alchemist fan fiction. Any comments on characterization would be appreciated.
Summary: Equivalent exchange is a basic rule of life. But it’s not always easy to see if what you’re getting is worth the loss.

“Stupid know-it-all. Acts like he knows everything,” Ed muttered childishly while pacing around the room he and his brother were currently sharing.

“You shouldn’t let him get to you, big brother.” Al told his brother calmly. Al had initially thought that when his brother and Roy got together, it would mean they would get along better. If anything, it was worse.

Ed folded his arms and looked around for something to glare at. After deciding that the flowerpot, trash can, and bed didn’t suit him, he settled on the clock on the wall.

“What exactly happened?” Al asked after a moment.

“We were actually having a nice dinner last night until he criticized my new clothes. He said they made me look smaller then usual and he didn’t think it was possible!” Ed said, his eyes still fixed on the clock.

Al inwardly flinched at the mention of them. He and Ed had gone to dozens of stores over the course of what felt like a million hours looking for just the right outfit for the special dinner. It had been torture! His brother said it was an anniversary for something but wouldn’t give anymore details. Before he could respond, Roy walked uninvited into the room.

“What do you want?” Ed spat, still glaring at the clock. He wasn’t going to give the jerk the honor of being looked at!

Roy sighed. “Can we talk alone?”

“Anything you can say to me, you can say in front of Al!” Ed said.

Roy rolled his eyes and walked over to Ed. He grabbed him by his coat and dragged him out of the room.

“Hey! Stop that, you don’t own me you know!” Ed cried as he struggled to pull away from Roy as he was pulled down the hall.

Al knew better then to try and stop Roy and Ed. This was just how they worked things out.

When Roy and Ed were in Roe’s office, Roy let Ed go.

“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t just leave?” Ed asked.

“I just want you to give me the benefit of the doubt and let me explain.” Roy said.

“Fine. It better be good.” Ed said.

“You don’t have to try and impress me. I love you the way you are.”

“What makes you think I was going out of my way for you?” Ed snapped.

“I happen to know that you spent the better part of Friday looking for that outfit.” Roy said.

“How did you,” Ed started, but then quickly decided he didn’t want to know. “It was supposed to be special.”

“It was. And it will continue to be if you stay who you are.” Roy said.

“I’m not a child.” Ed said, although the former anger in his voice was all but gone.

“Exactly.” Roy said pulled Ed into a hug.

“When did you get a sappy?” Ed said, although he didn’t move away.

Roy grinned, “since you screamed my name in bed.”

Ed pulled away from the hug and said indignantly, “never!”

“Care to prove me wrong?”
